Megan Stringer is a reporter for Axios Local, where she is launching a San Antonio email newsletter for local readers and building it from the ground up. She uses news judgement to report on the most important topics daily for a local audience.

Prior to joining Axios, Megan covered City Hall for the San Antonio Express-News, writing about the range of topics that cross hairs with local politics and policy. She reported on affordable housing issues, City Council redistricting, the 2022 city bond program, local political scandals and more.

Megan has also worked for the Wichita Eagle, where she focused on issues facing the working class, labor and employment. There, she wrote about changes to state workers' compensation laws that chipped away at benefits, employment programs to assist laid-off aviation manufacturing workers and obstacles facing women in the workplace. She's also extensively covered local police union contract negotiations and an overwhelmed Kansas unemployment system in the pandemic.

In Kansas, Megan was a corps member with Report for America, a competitive national service program that places journalists into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities.

In 2021, she was a mentee with the Solutions Journalism Network. She learned to report on responses to social problems and whether or not they work.

She was also an active member of the Wichita Journalism Collaborative, a coalition of local newsrooms, where she worked to shape coverage and advance community engagement.

At the beginning of her career, Megan covered business and economic development for the Wausau Daily Herald and the USA TODAY Network in Wisconsin.

In writing, she looks for community issues with broader significance. Her reporting seeks impact, engagement, collaboration, transparency and solutions.

Ultimately, she aims to create journalism that motivates people to leave their phone at home and engage in real-world conversation.

Outside of work, she enjoys reading, cooking and hiking. She loves to locate the best cup of coffee and craft beer wherever she goes, and is always happy to explore new places through people and history.
